How about some down time?
How do YOU relax? Here are some suggestions!
Walking
Check out the many Parks in Richland. Let the kids play while you either join along, or spread a blanket out and watch the beautiful scenery. Richland boasts riverside parks, nature parks, skate parks, small neighborhood pocket parks, athletic fields, playgrounds and a dog park.
Enjoying Nature
Leisurely Hiking
Choose from one of many hikes in Richland. In Central Richland, there is the Urban Greenbelt Hike, a 3.25 mile, relatively flat paved pathway through central Richland. Along the Yakima River. The Bypass Shelterbelt Trail includes areas within the Yakima River Greenway, managed by the non-profit organization, the Tapteal Greenway. This area includes wetlands, shorelines and natural hiking trails in Chamna Natural Preserve and W.E. Johnson Parks.
If it's a shorter walk or stroll you are after, visit the small xeriscape garden and kiosk at McMurray Park in North Richland or the Marjorie Sutch Greenway, which is a small park off the Urban Greenbelt trial. Tapteal Greenway also cares for the Amon Basin Natural Preserve in South Richland.
Bird Watching
Because Richland borders both the Columbia and Yakima Rivers, there are endless opportunities to bird watch. The most popular locations in Richland are Bateman Island, Amon Basin, Chamna Park Preserve, and W.E. Johnson Park.
Observing Flower and Plant Life
Check out our desert oasis of natural plants - Columbia Basin Native Plant Society.
Fishing
Find a popular place to fish or mosey around the river and find your own favorite fishing hole.
Enjoying Sunsets
A well-kept secret is our beautiful sunsets, viewable at a number of relaxing viewpoints. Easily accessible is the Lewis & Clark Overlook on Columbia Park Trail or one of the restaurants or parks at Columbia Point Marina Park or Columbia Park West. If you have a little energy climb to the top of Badger Mountain, or Candy Mountain for an unobstructed view.
Shopping
Richland has some unique shops within walking distance of each other. If you want to experience a large variety within walking distance than we suggest the Downtown Parkway and the Uptown Shopping Center. You can spend hours perusing the unique stores, including antique, book, gift, home décor, novelty, secondhand, spiritual, sports and much more.
