New Animation Highlights the Epic Journey of Northwest Salmon

The life cycle of Northwest salmon has all the ingredients of an epic story – a long journey, adapting to new situations, numerous threats and a victorious homecoming. This video from Bonneville Power Administration focuses on their journey from freshwater streams to the ocean - where they spend most of their lives - and back again. The fish run a gauntlet of potential threats, from predatory birds and sea lions to anglers and hydroelectric dams. They’re also affected by ocean conditions, food availability and habitat conditions. Despite these many challenges, each year tens of thousands of Northwest salmon make it home to their birth streams to begin the cycle again.
