When ice is present or in the forecast, roads are monitored and anti-icer added when/where necessary. Please use extra caution and drive more slowly during inclement weather conditions.
Overview
When weather forecasts indicate that snow or ice conditions are in the forecast, Richland street maintenance crews are mobilized to apply anti-icing chemicals to the arterials, collector streets (including school zones), and steep inclined streets. Depending on the type, accumulation, and recurrence of winter storm events, the streets supervisor will determine if and when other resources are deployed based on the priority system listed below.
Snow & ice control efforts are for vehicular traffic. Bike lanes and shoulders are used for snow storage and are not included in the priorities listed.
- Priority 1 - Main arterial streets
- Priority 2 - Collector streets / school zones
- Priority 3 - High priority steep streets
- Followed by remaining residential streets, only when high accumulations occur.
