Inspections & Codes
To ensure your and our employees' safety, the state requires all customer-owned equipment and wiring to comply with the State of Washington Department of Labor and Industries and local requirements. Customers must obtain an electrical work permit from the Department of Labor and Industries. The installation must be inspected and approved by the Department of Labor and Industries prior to the installation of service and connection by Richland Energy Services. Please check with Engineering and Permitting offices about local requirements before beginning your project. For applicable wiring code requirements, contact the Department of Labor and Industries or a qualified electrician. Energy Services will reconnect altered residential services prior to approval by the state electrical inspector if the electrical work permit is displayed on site and the electrician is on the City of Richland's Energy Services' qualified Active Electrical Contractors listing. Call Electrical Engineering at (509) 942-7403 for more information.
For inspection questions, please call the Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) state electrical inspector at (509) 735-0138. To schedule an electrical inspection, call the L&I request line at (509) 735-0148.
Electrical Utility Conduit Inspections
Inspection is required of all conduits and substructures installed in or below the ground for the electric utility and must be done prior to backfilling. Failure to obtain an inspection will require the installer to expose any or all of the buried facilities for an inspection. Please schedule an inspection at least 48 hours in advance by contacting the electric utility system scheduling line at (509) 942-7421.
